Jeffrey Vernon Winburn, 43, Platte City, Missouri, died Monday, October 13, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. The family suggests contributions to the National Veterans Foundation.
Jeff was born June 23, 1971, the son of Randy Delmar and Pamela Kay (Fry) Winburn. On January 8, 1997, he proudly became the father of Caden Haze Winburn, and on December 16, 2002, he welcomed his sweet daughter, Hanna Marie Winburn, into the world. In the fall of 2010, Christian Shannon entered his life. She became his soul mate and anchor of support.
On May 25, 1989, Jeff proudly enlisted in the US Army. He completed his training and was transferred to Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he was assigned to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, for duty as a fighting vehicle infantryman. He was deployed with his unit to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm on August 26, 1990. He served there until March 26, 1991. Jeff was honorably released from active duty on August 30, 1991. He served 2 years, 3 months, 6 days of total active service and was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Lapel Button, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, a Sharpshooter Badge (rifle) and Expert Badge (Grenade). Additionally he was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal awarded by the Government of Kuwait and the Kuwait Liberation Medal awarded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Jeff Winburn was an Army Veteran, who wore that title with great dignity and respect for his country. He was also a good father. He loved his children, Caden and Hanna, very much. They were his reason for living.
Jeff attended elementary and high school in Butler, Missouri, Missouri Southern State University and Vatterott College in Joplin, Missouri. He earned an associate's degree in HVAC and Building System Maintenance. He took great pride in his work, and was a perfectionist at his job. Jeff was also a member of the First Christian Church in Butler, MO.
Jeff is survived by his children, Caden Winburn and Hanna Winburn, of the home; long-time girlfriend, Christian Shannon of Adrian, Missouri; his parents, Randy and Pam Winburn of Osage Beach, Missouri; two sisters, JoDee Fink (Allen), of Amsterdam, Missouri, and Jackie Winburn (Rossann Williams), of Toronto, Canada; one niece, Samantha Fink of Amsterdam, Missouri and one nephew, Dylan Fink of Amsterdam, Missouri.
