Obituary

Wilda "Jean" Kisner, 83, of Freeman, Missouri died Friday, October 3,, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 Tuesday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Inurnment to follow at the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freeman Presbyterian Church in Freeman, Missouri or to the Holiness Church of the Nazarene in Stilwell, Kansas.

Jean was born February 21, 1931 in Carrollton, Missouri, the fourth child and only daughter of George and Blanche (Wright) Koons. When Jean was a baby, her parents were transferred to Odessa, Missouri where her father worked for the pipeline. At the age of three they moved once again to Freeman, Missouri and it was in Freeman she would live the rest of her life. Jean graduated Valedictorian of both her eighth grade and her senior classes. She was president of student council, vice-president of her senior class and a forward on the basketball team. Following graduation Jean enrolled in Warrensburg Teacher's College, now known as The University of Central Missouri. While attending college, Jean accepted a teaching position at a one-room country school (Wolf School) just northeast of Freeman.

On December 23, 1949 Jean was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Warren "Warnie" Kisner, at the Freeman Presbyterian Church. He was the love of her life and the marriage would last almost 62 years until Warnie passed away on July 22, 2011. As her children were growing up, Jean worked as a substitute teacher at Freeman. Through the years, Jean taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and for several years was a member of the Domestic Dames Extension Club. Jean worked many years as a judge on the Freeman election board. As a member of the Freeman Presbyterian Church she made her confession of faith at the age of 9 and would later in life reaffirm her vows.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Warnie, her parents and two brothers, George Duane Koons and Charles Koons. She is survived by two sons and two daughters: Clint Kisner of Belton, Missouri, and his children, Jodie and husband, Matt Nolen and daughter, Wrigley of Topeka, Kansas; Ryan Kisner and Melissa and their children, Delaney and Dawson of Liberty, Missouri; Wade Kisner and wife, Patty of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and children, Tyler and wife, Dr. Allison Kisner of Kewanee, Illinois, Travis Kisner of Marion, Iowa and Will Kisner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Stacy Jo and husband, Mike Oyster of Belton, Missouri and children, Bethany Jean and husband, Barry Villaverde and sons, Brandon and wife, LeighAnne, Lucas, Jase and Jett of Belton, Missouri; Reid Oyster and daughter, Elsie of Kansas City, Missouri; Kristin Ann Guier of Freeman, Missouri and children, Kylie and husband, Dustin Randazzo and son, Axel of Belton, Missouri; Chelsie and husband, Jared Eaves of Belton, Missouri; Blake Guier, a senior at Pitt State University, Pittsburg, Kansas; a brother, Donald Koons and wife, Joan of Eugene, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
