Jarrett E. Hawley, Jr., 67, of Harrisonville, MO died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. The family will receive friends 5:30-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 27 at the Atkinson Chapel. Private family inurnment in the Freeman, MO cemetery at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the First Christian Church Memorial and Endowment Fund to help fund the Cass R-9 School Summer Backpack Program.
Jarrett was born August 26, 1943 in Lafayette, Indiana, a son of Jarrett Elroy and Alice Marie (Bybee) Hawley. He lived in Mulberry, Indiana before moving to Harrisonville in 1952. He attended Harrisonville Public Schools and was a 1961 graduate. Jarrett was united in marriage to Joyce Hershberger on June 15, 1963 at the Harrisonville First Christian Church.
Jarrett was a Union Millwright and a member of Local 777. He retired May 1, 2004. He was a member of the Harrisonville First Christian Church, The Harrisonville Optimist Club and the Spirit of 76 Chapter of S.A.R. He was a volunteer with the Harrisonville Fire Dept. from 1965 to 1971 and a volunteer with Central Cass Fire Protection District starting in 1971. Jarrett served as Fire Chief from 1982-1991 and was currently serving on the Board of Directors.
Jarrett is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home, a son, Jarrett E. Hawley III, and wife Jennifer, Harrisonville; three daughters, Jamie Mathews, and husband Nathan, Julie White, and Jessica Gipson, and husband Jason, all of Harrisonville; two brothers, Richard Hawley and wife Regina, and Raymond Hawley and wife Kristen, all of Harrisonville; ten grandchildren, Kenton and Chelsea Hawkins, Josh, Drake, Cody, Maddie, Kenna, Taylor, Bryar, Brady, and Cayden.
