James "Jim" Phillip Willoughby, 74, of Harrisonville, MO died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Harrisonville. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Jim was born July 21, 1935 in Springfield, MO, the son of Chester Willoughby and Artie Ryan. He married Freda H. Anderson on April 16, 1960 in Cripple Creek, Virginia. Jim had lived in Weaubleau, MO for 20 years before moving to Harrisonville where he has lived for the last 38 years. Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1955 until 1975. After retiring from the service, he worked for Davidson Shoe Store, from 1975-1982. He then worked as a supervisor in maintenance for Marley Cooling Towers in Kansas City for 15 years before retiring in 1997.
Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Harrisonville and had served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Harrisonville VFW Post 4409.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Freda, of the home; two sons, James Edward Willoughby and his wife, Diane and Paul Willoughby, both of El Dorado, KS; one daughter, Sonja L. McLanahan and her husband, Michael of Harrisonville, MO; three sisters, Ruth Truitt of Bolivar, MO, Mickey Mitts of El Dorado Springs, MO and Linda Humphrey and her husband, Roger of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren, Tousha Morgan and her husband, Shawn, Travis McLanahan, Trisha McLanahan, James P. Willoughby, Jessie Willoughby, Stephanie Willoughby and Sarah Willoughby and six great-grandchildren, Zane, Emma, Bradin, Madison, Kolten and Christopher.
