Obituary

James "Jim" Sutton, 67, Drexel, MO, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 28 at the Atkinson Chapel in Archie, MO. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 800 East 101st Terrace, Suite 150, Kansas City, MO 64131 or to the American Cancer Society, KC Metro Office, 6700 Antioch Road, Suite 100, Merriam, KS 66204-1200.

Jim was born September 22, 1941 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of James Logan and Lora Levon (Goddard) Sutton. He married Lavonne Limpus on October 16, 1960 at the Archie Methodist Church in Archie. To this union two sons were born, Jeffrey D. and Johnny L. Sutton. Jim worked for Bendix Corp. and other companies until 1969 at which time his father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Ruby Limpus, asked him to come to work for them at Limpus Quarries, where he worked until 1982. He then decided to start his own business, Sutton Trucking, Inc. He retired in 2005 and his sons, Johnny and Jeffrey now operate the family business.

Jim loved to travel; he took his granddaughter to Africa and his grandson to Alaska and all over the United States. He enjoyed his trips to Texas in the winter and the many friends he made. He enjoyed fishing and trucking.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James L. Sutton and his mother and father-in-law, Lyle and Ruby Limpus. He is survived by his wife, Lavonne, of the home; his mother, Lora Levon Sevy, Adrian, MO; two sons, Jeff Sutton and his son, Cody, Archie, MO and Johnny Sutton and his wife, Robin and their daughter, Jessica, Drexel, MO; two brothers, Dennis Sutton and his wife, Patty, Butler, MO and Wayne Sutton and his wife, Vicky, Archie, MO; two sisters, Sandy Tallman and her husband, Donnie, Adrian, MO and Ronda Wernex and her husband, Jim, Freeman, MO; brothers-in-law, Ron Limpus and his wife, Linda, Harrisonville, MO and Harlan Limpus and Lila, Lake Winnebago, MO and many nephews and nieces. Jim also leaves his other family, all of the employees at Sutton Trucking.

Jim's message to all his family and friends after being diagnosed with cancer was, life is short, enjoy every minute to the fullest; hold your family close; every minute is precious and take time to smell the roses.
