Obituary

James Andrew Phillips, 60, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Friday morning, March 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A service celebrating James's life was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

James was born on June 12, 1964. He was a painter by trade and had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. His favorite pastime was catfishing, though he was always on the lookout for a nice bass. James cherished family holidays, often indulging in a big plate of his mom's home-cooked food, followed by a nap to celebrate the occasion.

James had a special bond with his children and grandchildren, always asking how everyone was doing and relishing the stories they would share. His response would often be accompanied by a chuckle, saying, "That's wonderful, grasshopper." Known by many names-James, Jamie, and Jinx-he was full of spirit and a touch of orneriness. He frequently called his family to ask what they had for dinner, how many cups of coffee they'd had, and how their day was going.

He was a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, often asking which channel to tune into for the big game. James also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, playing bingo lottery tickets in hopes of hitting it big.

Above all, James loved the Lord Jesus Christ and dedicated his heart to Him at a young age. He reassured his family that he was not afraid to die, and at the precious moment when the Lord called him home, he passed peacefully into heaven, surrounded by his parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.

James is survived by his parents, Bob and Jean Phillips; his brother, Steve (Stephanie) Phillips; his sister, Pam (Tony) Moulton; his daughter, Maegan Phillips; his sons, Johnathon Ryan (Tammy) Phillips and Logan Phillips; his three grandchildren: Landen Phillips, Brier Owens, and Madalyn Phillips; as well as, several nieces and nephews.

James will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His love for family, his sense of humor, and his faith will continue to inspire and comfort those left behind.
