Obituary

James L. McCaslin, 81, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, February 22, 2019 at his home.  Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church.

James was born on August 19, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Walter Lewis and Loraine (Barnes) McCaslin.  He was a 1956 graduate of North Kansas City High School and attended Metropolitan Community Colleges.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margaret A. Blackman, on October 2, 1965 in Kansas City, MO.

James was the owner of McCaslin Building Maintenance and Janitorial Services in Kansas City for 26 years, retiring in 2002.  He and Margaret then moved to Deepwater, MO until 2016 when they moved to Harrisonville.  James was a lifelong member of Community of Christ Church and a member of the Optimist Club in the Northland for over 20 years.  He was a friend to all who knew him, as he never met a stranger.  He was always willing to assist others and lend a helping hand.  He enjoyed volunteering, serving at The Samaritan Center Food Pantry of Clinton for 11 years.  But, he especially loved the 10 years he spent volunteering at Triality Inc., a day program for individuals with special needs where his son, Mark, attended.  James was an Army veteran.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Mark Lewis McCaslin, in 2017.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of the home, and a daughter, Michelle Wilson (KC), Harrisonville, MO; a sister, Wilba (Evans) Burgess, Tallahassee, FL; 4 grandchildren, Morgan Mitchell (Chris), Jon Johannes (Jessi), Gabrielle Wilson and Madelyn Wilson, all of Harrisonville; and 5 great-grandchildren, Bentley Mitchell, Arabella Mitchell, Bohannon Mitchell, Adelaide Johannes, and McKinnley Johannes.
