James Louis Sanders, 85, Freeman, MO, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Saint Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Services 2:00 PM Friday, December 21 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Glenwild Cemetery, Cleveland, MO. Visitation 6:00-7:30 PM Thursday at the chapel. Contributions to West Line Christian Church.
James was born May 23, 1922 in West Line, MO, the son of Okie and Nova (Crook) Sanders. He attended Freeman High School. James was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He married Inez Lucille (Evans) Cornell on June 9, 1951.
James worked at Freeman Standard Oil Co. He moved to Iola, KS on September 6, 1954 where he ran the Standard Oil Bulk Agency. He and Inez also ran a greenhouse in Iola. On August 6, 1970, they moved back to Freeman, MO. He then worked at Bledsoe Rental Co. in Kansas City and retired from Shawnee Mission School District as a supervisor of the District Carpenter Shop in 1990. James was a member of the West Line Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing and his hobbies included woodworking and making furniture.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Inez on June 12, 2002 and a sister, Betty Brown. He is survived by one son, Jamie Lee Sanders, Clinton, MO; one daughter, Karen Sue (Cornell) Nation, Mound City, KS; two sisters, Mary Lou Adams and Donna Farr, both of Freeman, MO; seven grandchildren, Jeananne Jorge, Karla Abeyta, Randy McAnulty, Erin Sanders, Matthew Houk, Crystal Houk and Nichole Brewer; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
