James Edwin
Haston
Sep 13, 1946 — Jun 22, 2026
Atkinson Funeral Home - Harrisonville
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Central time)
James "Jim" E. Haston, 79, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away after a long and full life on Monday, June 22, 2026, at his home. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Born September 13, 1946, in Kansas City, MO, to James Edward Haston and Agnes Mae Haston (née Smith), and was raised with the loving guidance of his Aunt Betty McMurray. Jim graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1964, where he quickly became known for his athletic talent. He excelled in baseball, football, and track, and even competed as a Junior Golden Gloves boxer. His love of sports and competition remained a defining part of who he was.
On June 26, 1965, Jim married Carol Adams, and together they welcomed two children, James Richard and Julie Ann. His children were his greatest pride, and he carried his devotion to them throughout his life.
A hardworking and determined man, Jim built a long career as a business owner in Harrisonville, beginning in 1976 and continuing through the operation of Roll Off Service until 2022. He especially cherished the years spent working alongside his father, Jim Sr., and his brother, Jerry - relationships that shaped both his work ethic and his character.
He was the best Dad - a man who brought joy, laughter, and warmth into the lives of his children. They grew up in a home where love from both parents was constant and unquestioned, something they never took for granted. Jim taught them how to play ping pong, pool, baseball (his greatest love), basketball, football, and even poker. Whatever he knew, he shared with patience and enthusiasm. Remarkably, he never criticized them - not once. His love was unconditional, and that unconditional love was returned to him. He was a rare gem, and he will be missed greatly by his children.
Jim was known for his generosity, loyalty, and the deep friendships he cultivated over the years. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people and often opened his home to those who needed a place to land. His kindness left a lasting impression on many. Jim was baptized in the Baptist faith and loved the Lord, a devotion he spoke of often. His faith guided him, comforted him, and shaped the way he treated others throughout his life.
In his later years, Jim was cared for with love and dignity by his daughter, Julie, who remained devoted to him through the challenges of aging. Her commitment brought him comfort and honored the bond they shared.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerry; his second wife, Beverly; and Beverly's son, Brian. He is survived by his son, Jim Haston; his daughter, Julie Kidwell; and his Aunt Betty McMurray.
Jim will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his generosity, and the unwavering love he held for his family. He will be deeply missed - especially by his children, who loved him dearly.
