James "Jim" Enos, 87, Adrian, Missouri, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Adrian, Missouri. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 11 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the James Enos FFA Scholarship Fund or to the church.

Jim was born April 12, 1925 in Adrian, Missouri, on the home place his grandfather settled in 1892, the son of James V. and Ruth (Lentz) Enos. He was one of six children. Jim attended Coleville School for his first eight years and graduated in 1947 from Adrian High School. After returning from the Army, he bought the home place from his mother. He then began farming and raising registered Angus cattle, which was his lifetime passion.

In 1954 he started working for the U. S. Postal Service, working in Adrian and then Lee's Summit, Missouri. On June 13, 1975 he was united in marriage to Betty Fortsch Greife at the Adrian United Methodist Church. Attending were Betty's father and Jim's mother and his future family. In a very short time that day, he became a new husband, father of six and grandfather to one.

After retirement from the postal service in 1983, he spent the rest of his years very happily with Betty, his family and his Angus cattle. Many of Jim's cattle prodigy are all over the state of Missouri. At one time, he was a licensed pilot. Jim was a member of the Bates County Cattlemen. He liked to attend cattle auctions and watch them on television, along with old westerns. He had a good eye for fine cattle and enjoyed teaching others about how to raise good stock, (Black Angus, of course). Jim enjoyed his four-wheeler, vanilla ice cream and his special honey buns every morning for breakfast; sometimes having his honey buns with ice cream. He liked to help his grandchildren with their 4-H cattle at the county fair and he and Betty also sponsored an Angus trophy.

Jim was humble, kind and soft spoken. He loved his neighbors and visiting all of his old friends, and after 87 years, he had many. Before he went on to his glory, his only request was to come home to the farm. He passed on at home, surrounded by his family's love and his Angus cattle out in the pasture. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Viola Doll, Lila Alexious and Verna, and his brother, Frank Enos. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Jerry and Rex Griffith, Frances and Richard Hoxsey, Jack Greife, Marie and Zach Rowan, Ed Greife, Charles Greife and fiancée, Dallas Rowan; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his sister, Lela Minnick; sister-in-law, Mary Enos; along with many special nieces, nephews and friends.
