James "Jim" Earl Minnick, 83, Blue Springs, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to VAL, (Veterans Auxiliary League, Missouri Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Rd., Warrensburg, MO 64093).
Jim was born January 12, 1932 in rural Cass County, Missouri, the son of James Leslie and Florence Mabel (Holiday) Minnick. He grew up in Archie, Missouri and was a 1949 graduate of Archie High School. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Griffith on August 30, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
They lived in Kansas City, then in Buckner for 32 years. He served on the city council from 1968-1970. Jim worked for Lyon's Die Casting for 17 years and owned and operated Minnick Tool & Die for 25 years. He enjoyed boating, waterskiing, bowling and travel. He and Dorothy moved to Blue Springs in 2000. Jim was a Baptist and an avid golfer. He was active in the senior activities at Vesper Hall.
Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two daughters, Diane McLelland and her husband, Bruce, Blue Springs, Missouri and Dawn McCall and her husband, Jerry, Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Clissie May Warner, Archie, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
