Jack M. Kropf, 89 of Harrisonville, Mo, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at The Rehabilitation Center of Raymore, Raymore, Mo. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Mo. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. with a Masonic service at 10 a.m. with funeral service immediately following. Burial with military honors, in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Jack was born August 18, 1923, in Garden City, Mo a son of Daniel Earl and Florence L. (Yoder) Kropf. He was a 1942 graduate of Harrisonville High School, and was a lifelong area resident. Jack entered the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served as a Flight Maintenance Gunner on a B-29 aircraft. He completed 18 combat bombing missions before his plane was shot down over Tokyo Bay in 1945. Jack was forced to bail out, was captured, and spent nine months as a POW in Japan. He was liberated at the end of the war and awarded the Purple Heart. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Mudd on February 1, 1946. Together they raised four children. In his spare time, Jack loved spending time with his family. He was a true outdoorsman. Jack's favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and watching fellow left-hander, golfer, Phil Mickelson. His family describes him of a man of few works, but when he spoke it was with love and wisdom; he will be forever missed.
A man of many talents, Jack's career spanned a wide variety of interests. He was a farmer, bought and sold cattle, owned and operated Kropf's Welding for many years and also owned the Commercial Street Lounge in Harrisonville. Jack was a member of Cass Masonic Lodge #147 in Harrisonville and Ararat Shrine in Kansas City for more than 50 years. He was a life member of VFW Post #4409 in Harrisonville.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie and a son, Kevin, parents, and brother, J.D. Kropf, He is survived by a son, Kirby Kropf and wife, Stephanie, Harrisonville, and two daughters, Karen Myers, Harrisonville, and Kelly Howard and husband, Rick, Urich, Mo. Jack is also survived by a brother, Morris Kropf, Mesa, Ariz., three grandchildren, Julie, Kyle and Riki and four great-grandchildren, Shelbi, Serenity and Alex, along with many nieces and nephews and friends.
