Jack Everett Knight, 79, Peculiar, MO, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Rehabilitation Center of Raymore, Raymore, MO. Funeral services 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, MO. Visitation 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the chapel with Masonic Services at 8:00 PM. Burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Contributions to First Church of Peculiar Building Fund, Peculiar, MO.
Jack was born December 26, 1928 in Delmar, Henry County, Missouri, the son of Ora Willis and Mabel Lucy (Ritter) Knight. He lived in the Clinton, MO area before moving to Peculiar in 1949. He married Ruby McConnaughey on December 28, 1948 in Macon, MO. He and Ruby worked the dairy farm for many years.
Jack later worked at Byers Quarry and Hunt Midwest Underground Storage as a mechanic and also did small engine repair at his home. He also loved to work with wood.
Jack was a member and past master (1970-71) of the Grand River Lodge #276 in Freeman, MO; member and past patron of the Elizabeth Chapter of Order of Easter Star in Belton; past High Priest in Chapter and Senior Warden of the Commandery; past board member of the United Methodist Church of Peculiar and current member of the First Church of Peculiar; past Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Jack joined the Median Shrine Temple in Wichita, KS in 1966 and moved his membership to the Ararat Shrine in Kansas City in 1975.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; two sons, Dale E. Knight and his wife, Kathy, North Myrtle Beach, SC and Donald J. Knight and his wife, Gloria, Schaumburg, IL; one brother, Earl O. Knight, Belton, MO; one sister, Bonnie Oliphant, Wichita, KS; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
