Obituary

Jack A. "Hoss" Guthrie, 77, Archie, Missouri died Friday, December 12, 2014 at Meadow View Of Harrisonville Health And Rehabilitation. Memorial services will be held 11:00am Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00am Saturday, December 20, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.

Jack was born August 28, 1937 in Harrisonville, son of Opal Marie Hall and Clarence Valentine Guthrie. He was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Minnie and Bill Tatman, on the Tatman Farm, west of Archie. Jack attended Steen Rural School #84, North of Everett, from 1943 until the school closed in the spring of 1948. After the school closing, he attended Archie Public School, and was a 1955 graduate of Archie High School. Jack was always involved with music, and won a music contest at the Cass County Fair when he was thirteen. He continued his interest in music and played with many local musicians and became an entertainer at a young age.

Jack met Coletta Jean Hartsell and they were united in marriage August 17, 1957 in Kansas City, MO. In 1957 he went to work at Fisher Body GM plant in Kansas City. In 1961 they purchased a farm north of Everett. Jack retired from General Motors in 1974 to become a full time farmer. They raised three children and continued farming and playing music every weekend. "Hoss" as he was known, played the guitar, sang and was involved with various country western groups and musicians. In 1984, they moved to Blue Eye, MO on Table Rock Lake where he continued his passion for music and entertaining. They returned to Archie in 2001.

He is survived by his three children: Debra Lynn Seagraves, Jackie Jean Smith and Billy Ray Guthrie, all of Archie, MO; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
