Obituary

Homer Lee Gregg, 95, Spring Hill, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. No visitation. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Homer was born August 26, 1918 in Creighton, Missouri, the son of Herman and Ethel (Barnard) Gregg. He spent his younger years helping his father farm. On February 17, 1942 he joined the army. He was a hospital cook and mess sergeant in an army hospital in Waycross, Georgia. It was then he met and married Hazel Harris, December 9, 1943. To this union was born two sons, Richard Glen and Ronald Derick. Homer was honorably discharged from the service on November 28, 1945.

Homer was always self employed. He worked in the manufacturing business for many years. In December, 1991, Homer married Velma Shields in Paola, Kansas. She passed away in 1999. In 2001 he married Lottie Chard of Spring Hill, Kansas. Homer was a member of the Ocheltree Baptist Church near Spring Hill.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donald, Cecil and Cliffton. He is survived by his wife, Lottie, of the home; three sisters, Lucile Rosson, Cool Valley, Illinois, Ruby Westmoreland, Butler, Missouri and Wilma Fane, Princeton, Illinois; a brother, Dale Gregg, Harrisonville, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two step-sons and three step-grandsons.
