Helen Irene Morton, 82, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Brady Cemetery in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Kansas City Metro Office, 6700 Antioch Road, Suite 100, Merriam, KS 66204.
Helen was born June 27, 1927 in Fulton, KS, the daughter of Charles Lewis and Elsie (Priest) Vodrey. She married Grover Lee Morton on May 13, 1964. She had lived in Lee's Summit, MO before moving to Harrisonville in 1968. Helen worked for Western Electric (AT&T) for 25 years before retiring as a line supervisor in 1988. She was a member of the Pioneer Club and the CWA Union.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Thomas Cooper, one son, Tom Cooper and one sister, Eileen Vodrey. She is survived by her husband, Grover of the home; three sons, Denny Morton of Pleasant Hill, MO, Dexter Morton and his wife, Pam of Lee's Summit, MO and Dudley Morton and his wife, Teresa of Peculiar, MO; one daughter, Judy Harrington and her husband, Jim of Clinton, MO; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
