Obituary

Harvey E. Knox, 80, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 13 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Atkinson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Elks Lodge 2791, Harvey Knox Memorial.

Harvey was born September 8, 1935 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, the son of Dave Monroe and Rosa Mae (Malicoat) Knox. He was a lifelong resident of Cass County. He was united in marriage to Billie J. Prettyman on July 16, 1955 at Brother Joe Brewster's house in Harrisonville. Harvey served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1953-1955, going through boot camp at Camp Pendleton, California, then serving at a security base at Lake Mead in Las Vegas, Nevada. He went to work at Bendix in 1958 in security, working until he retired from Allied Signal in 1994. He also worked part-time as a police officer in Harrisonville.

Harvey and Billie spent 22 years as winter Texans in Weslaco, Texas, where he spent much of that time as activity director and helped cook many meals at Snow to Sun Park. Harvey was a charter member of the Harrisonville Elks Lodge 2791, where he also liked to cook meals and earn money for the VA Hospital in Kansas City. His biggest project was getting a Friday night dance started at the Lodge and helping in the concession stand serving meals.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Larry, Maurice, Bill, Cecil, Ralph, and one sister, Margie Kisner. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie, of the home; four sons, Ronnie Knox and wife, Veda, Warrensburg, Missouri, Darell Knox and wife, Sherri, Harrisonville, Randy Knox and wife, Candee, Harrisonville, and Dale Knox and wife, Debbie, Platte City, Missouri; four grandsons, R. J. Knox (Annie), Chris Knox (Sheree), Michael Knox, Kyle Knox; three granddaughters, Danell Taylor (Brad), Kimberley Medlin (Sam), Kelsey Knox; two great-granddaughters, Addie and Austin; and four great-grandsons, Jax, Sully, Henry, and Lincoln; three sisters, Joyce Stevens, Adrian, Missouri, Phyllis Hughes (Bill), Harrisonville, and Mary Miller, Adrian.
