Harris Oehmke Stevens, 78, of Garden City, MO left this life to be with Jesus and his wife for eternity on Sunday, January 24, 2010 in Archie, MO. He was born October 27, 1931 in a farmhouse a mile north of his farm today, where he has lived for fifty-six years. He is the son of Howard and Freda (Oehmke) Stevens.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Dayton Community Church in Dayton, Missouri. Burial will be in the Austin Cemetery in Archie, MO. Visitation will be on 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Dayton Community Church.
On March 4, 1952 he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Rosina Rustin of Brockdish, England. To this union two daughters were born, Rhonda Sue and Deborah Gail. He was a life-long farmer and fourteen years at Harrisonville Parks and Recreation. However, his passion was the wildlife, the wild flowers and native grass that he harbors in his timber and fields.
Preserving local history was his hobby, leading him to open his farm once a year to the hundreds of people, where the post Civil War re-enactment of the Austin Bean Eaten' is held for the preservation of the Austin Cemetery. He was a member of the Dayton Community Church in Dayton, MO. He was a board member for the Austin Cemetery Association in Archie, MO. He graduated Garden City High School in 1949 and was a lifelong resident of Garden City, MO.
He loved his wife and girls with an unconditional love, passing that love to his son-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The legacy of this man and the prayers of his family is that each and every one have or will have experienced that same unconditional love in their families as ours.
Preceding him to heaven was his wife, Jackie and great-granddaughter, Faith Ann. To carry out God's love he leaves behind two daughters, Rhonda Morgan and husband, John of Garden City, MO and Debbie Morgan and her husband Ronnie of Archie, MO. Five grandchildren, Chris Morgan and his wife Kellie, Becky Smith and her husband John, Clint Morgan and his wife, Kim, Stephanie Wimsatt and her husband David, and Curt Morgan and his wife, Maranda; 11 great-grandchildren.
