Harold Glen Jaynes, 90, Harrisonville, MO, died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.
Harold was born February 12, 1927 in North Salem, MO, the youngest of nine children born to George C. and Eythel L. (Stevenson) Jaynes. He moved to La Plata at an early age and attended school there until age 17 when he decided to join the U.S. Navy. He received his diploma while overseas by using training as his final few credits. When he returned from serving his country, he worked at the Standard Oil Pipeline in Freeman, MO.
While working for the pipeline, Harold met his wife, Ruby Brewster. They were united in marriage on March 16, 1949 by the bride's uncle, Rev. Joe Brewster, at his home in Peculiar. He then went to work as a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in the Waldo area at the Wornall Station Post Office, for 28 years before retiring in 1988.
Harold was a member of the Freeman Missouri Baptist Church, a 50+ year member of the Grand River Masonic Lodge #276, Freeman, Missouri, and a 50+ year member of the Harrisonville VFW #4409. He was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Cass County Historical Society, and the Civil War Round Table. Harold was a sports lover and one of his favorite things to do was to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Everyone could always hear him cheering in the crowd.
Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby, of the home; three children, J. C. Jaynes and wife, Susan, Harrisonville, MO, Gary Jaynes, Lee's Summit, MO, and Karen Jaynes, Harrisonville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and a special sister-in-law, Ruth Mae McKee.
