After high school, Harold helped on the family farm near Harrisonville raising crops and livestock. He was drafted into the armed services with the Army of the United States shortly after and entered active duty February 4, 1946. He served in the European Theater with the 301st Signal Operation Battalion in Germany. They transported personnel, cargo, rations and materials on long and short distance hauls over all types of roads. He then completed some courses in radio operating and electrician mechanics. He met and married Barbara Jean Morris on June 18, 1950. They resided in Harrisonville, first on Lexington Street and then built his current residence on Locust Street, where they raised four children: Stephen K. Friedrich, Scott K. Friedrich, Stanley D. Friedrich and Shelly Friedrich Noe.
Harold was employed at Lake City by Remington Arms (DuPont) as an electrical foreman for over 30 years before retiring in 1986. However, he kept very busy in the community and helping family on various electrical or carpentry projects.
Throughout his life, Harold was very involved with this family. When the boys were in Scout Troop 240, he was right there with them. He remained active with the troop long after the boys were finished. He worked with them for about 40 years. He was Honorary Warrior with the Tribe of Mic-O-Say of the Boy Scouts of America. He was instrumental in helping to establish and found the Harrisonville Athletic Booster Club for the current Harrisonville stadium and helped construct the first concession stand.
Harold was elected to the Harrisonville City Council in the late 60's. He also served for many years, and continued to serve until present, on the Youth Building Board of Directors and was in charge of maintaining and upkeep, as well. He continued to help with various projects in the community, including building shelves and other small projects at Hope Haven, up until his stroke on January 9, 2013. He also enjoyed helping with various projects for his grandchildren. He was always ready to help when they asked. Harold helped construct the set for high school class plays that they were involved in, as well as Tyler's Eagle Scout project at the Harrisonville Elementary School.
