Hallie Maynota Gillespie, 81, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Bates County Memorial Hospital, Butler, MO. Funeral services 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Friends may call 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday at the chapel.
May was born March 28, 1926 in Cass County, MO, the daughter of Asa Ralph and Hallie Maynota (Bigley) Carnes. She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. She married Benjamin Andrew Gillespie, Jr. on February 12, 1950 at the East Lynne, MO Baptist Church.
May was a life-long Cass County, MO resident. She worked for Western Electric in Lee's Summit for 27 years before retiring in 1988. She was a telephone pioneer. She was a member of the Harrisonville First Baptist Church, the clown club and the Eastern Star in Pleasant Hill, MO.
May was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin, on December 26, 1982, two sisters, four brothers and one grandson. She is survived by one son, Michael Lee Gillespie, Butler, MO; one daughter, Shirley Range, Oak Grove, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
