H. O. "Hoop" Mattingley, 90, Archie, Missouri, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Archie. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Archie, with visitation from 1:00-1:30. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Hoop was born April 17, 1925 in Archie, Missouri, the son of James Shepherd and Bessie (Hunter) Mattingley. He was a lifelong Archie resident. He married Georgia Mae Burger on August 28, 1953.
Hoop was a WWII Army veteran and served with the 91st Infantry Division. He saw action in North Africa and Italy and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his valor. Hoop worked for General Motors, Leeds Plant, for 30 years, retiring in 1981 and was a retired member of the UAW. Hoop was a life member of the VFW Post 4409, Harrisonville. He enjoyed tinkering and carving and was quite the Pecan connoisseur.
Hoop was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Georgia Mae on June 16, 1999, and one brother. He is survived by nieces and nephews.
