Gurnest W. Livingston, 78, of Peculiar, Missouri, died Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Raymore, Missouri, with visitation from 10:00-12:00 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Raymore First Baptist Church Building Fund or to Kansas City Hospice House.
Gurnest was born September 7, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of Harold James and Mabel Eleanor (Clement) Livingston. He was a 1954 graduate of Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduation, Gurnest joined the U.S. Navy where he served a four year enlistment and was honorably discharged in July, 1958. He returned to Kansas City and met his future wife, Evelyn Schmoll, who was attending nursing school in Kansas City. They were united in marriage on December 27, 1958 at the Southfork Baptist Church in rural Drexel, Missouri.
They lived in the Kansas City area before moving to Peculiar in 1976. Gurnest was a route salesman for Manor and Colonial Bread for 30 years before his retirement in 1995. He also owned and operated Livingston Lawn Service, a business he started after his retirement. Gurnest was a member of the First Baptist Church in Raymore, Missouri. He was a member of Teamsters Local #335, and served as president of the Raymore-Peculiar Booster Club in 1981-1982. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to golf, hunt and fish.
Gurnest was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Harold Livingston. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of the home; three sons, Tony Livingston (Cynthia), Harrisonville, Scott Livingston (Lori), Peculiar, and Todd Livingston (Gennie), Peculiar; a sister-in law, Barbara Livingston, Overland Park, Kansas; six grandchildren, Zach Livingston (Kylie), Kyle Livingston, Drew Livingston (Jordyn), Haley Livingston, Courtney Livingston, and Summer Livingston; one great-grandson, Mason Livingston; and many nieces and nephews.
