Obituary

Grover Lee Morton, 94, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.  Funeral services were held Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Brady Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Grover was born September 12, 1923 in Tunas, MO, (Dallas County), the son of Marcus D. and Edna Lena (Bradford) Morton. He graduated from Tunas High School and joined the Army on November 6, 1943. He served in Company E of the 100th Infantry Division. He was wounded at the Battle of Heilbronn, Germany, April 5, 1945 and returned home to the farm in Tunas.

Grover married Peggy Lou White on June 20, 1946 and they were blessed with three sons. The family moved to Kansas City, MO where Grover started Morton Construction, building houses for most of his life. He married Helen Cooper on May 13, 1964 and they moved to the farm in Harrisonville in 1968.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Myron Morton, four sisters, Vera, Verda, Naomi, Fay, his first wife, Peggy, his second wife, Helen, a son, Denny, stepdaughter, Judy Harrington, stepson, Tom Cooper and a granddaughter, Shauna Heck. Grover is survived by two sons, Dexter Morton and wife, Pamela, Lee's Summit, MO, and Dudley Morton and wife, Teresa, Peculiar, MO; a sister, Lily Conner, Grandview, MO; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
