Grover Cleveland "G. C." Shores, Jr., 80, Peculiar, Missouri, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in West Union Cemetery, Cleveland, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Peculiar, Missouri.
G. C. was born September 30, 1934 in Cleveland, Missouri, the son of Grover Cleveland and Elsie (Lofland) Shores. He was a 1953 graduate of Peculiar High School. G. C. had served in the U. S. Marine Air Reserve at the Naval Air Station in Olathe, Kansas, from 1954-1960. He married Sharon Ann Ingalls on November 26, 1976 in Clinton, Missouri. He was a lifelong resident of Cass County.
G. C. worked for R. W. Harmon & Sons, Mayflower Contracted Services and Crabtree-Harmon Corporation for 33 years before retiring in 2003 as the Western Regional Manager. He was a charter member of the Peculiar Lions Club; had served on the Board of Directors for Community Bank; was a past member and served on the Board for CASCO Workshop. He was also a past member and served on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Peculiar and had also served as Mayor of Peculiar from 1999-2000. He was a past member of the Raymore-Peculiar School Board, past president of Grand Junction Model Airplane Association, past president of Peculiar Alumni Association. and was a member of the Peculiar United Way. He was responsible for the formation of the Peculiar Park Board and was involved in various local community projects.
G. C. was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Roberta Caldwell and one son, Randy Shores. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Rex Shores and Rick Shores, both of Blue Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Sandra Swainston and her husband, Doug, Warrensburg, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Airman Jacob Shores of Elsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, and Sarah, Ryan and Scott Swainston., Warrensburg, Missouri.
