Gordon, a descendant of an Iowan pioneer family, was born in Logan, Iowa on June 19, 1924 to Homer William Hanneman and Antoinette (Nettie) Smith Hanneman. Gordon was the third of four children.

Gordon was drafted into the Navy at the age of 18, February 17, 1943 to serve in World War II in the south Pacific aboard naval ships. Upon the death of his father in 1943, he was allowed to take leave from the ship to attend the funeral and assist with transition of the family's new challenges. He served in the World War II efforts until he was honorably discharged on January 19th, 1946 as a Radioman, Third Class, SV6 USNR. Gordon was awarded and America Area Medal, a Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific (1 star). Following his discharge, he moved to Kansas City where he drove a city bus to begin his new civilian life and assist his family in the care of his mother.

While in Kansas City, Gordon met Mary Maxine Long of Liberal, Missouri. Gordon found his life match in Mary and they married on October 21, 1951. Mary and Gordon later moved from Kansas City to Freeman, MO where Gordon worked for Jay Hays' Foundation Company setting forms and pouring basement walls. He later went on to work at Westinghouse for a short stay and then on to General Motors at the Leeds Assembly Plant, where he retired in 1988 after thirty years of service.

Gordon was a devoted husband to Mary and an exceptional father to their family of four children. They lived for more than 20 years in Freeman, MO prior to moving to acreage south of Raymore where he built a beautiful home to satisfy his yearnings to be out in the country. As the limits of age pressed him, he and Mary relocated to a newer subdivision in Raymore.

Following his retirement from General Motors, Gordon and Mary invested in Raymore real estate and managed several income producing properties to keep themselves active, growing and financially secure.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Homer Hanneman, his mother, Antoinette (Nettie) Hanneman, his older brother Homer (Bud) Hanneman, his younger sister, Audre Hanneman, and his second son, David H. Hanneman. He is survived by his older sister, Marjorie Hanneman of Kansas City, MO, his stepson, Dr. Thomas H. Fish and his wife, Pat of Excelsior Springs, MO and Tom's four children, his son, Michael G. Hanneman and his wife, Shirley of Raymore, MO and their two children, his daughter, Karen L. Soulis and her husband, Tim Soulis of Harrisonville, MO and their two children. Gordon and Mary also enjoyed the gift of many cherished great-grandchildren.
