Gladys Lorene (Nicholas) Burhart Brockman, 98, Adrian, MO, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, MO. Funeral services 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, MO, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM at the chapel. Burial in Love Cemetery, Cedar Springs, MO. Contributions may be made to the Adrian Christian Church, Adrian, MO.

Gladys was born November 20, 1909 in El Dorado Springs, MO, the daughter of George W. and Chloe Ellen (Rittenhour) Nicholas. In 1925, she was united in marriage to Clarence Burhart in Independence, MO. Four sons were born to this union, James, Robert, Richard and Wayne.

Gladys was a great fan of baseball. She loved to bowl and she was good at it. She loved word games, such as crosswords, and her greatest passion was reading.

In the 1940's, Gladys and Clarence divorced. In the 1950's she married Frank Brockman. They divorced after five years.

Gladys loved to travel and she had visited Alaska, Hawaii, New England and many other states. Before moving to Adrian, Gladys worked at Lake City Arsenal (Remington Arms) for many years. She was a member of the Adrian Christian Church.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Earl, two sisters, Phyllis and Myrle, three sons, James, Robert and Wayne and two nephews, George and Bobby Lee. She is survived by one son, Richard Burhart and his wife, Miriam, Adrian, MO; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
