Wally Sweitzer, 63, of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm Monday, September 23 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. An Elks Service will be held 8:00pm Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or the University of Kansas Hospital.
Wally was born April 23, 1950 in Harrisonville, a son of George Theodore and Virginia Louise (Simon) Sweitzer, Jr. He was a lifelong Harrisonville resident and a 1968 graduate of Harrisonville High School. He attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri after high school.
Wally was a journeyman meter man and apprentice trainer for Kansas City Power & Light for 29 years before his retirement on April 29, 2010. Wally was united in marriage to Brenda Goss, November 28th 2003 in Creighton, Missouri.
Wally was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, and was a charter member and Past Exalted Ruler of Cass County Elks Lodge #2791 in Harrisonville. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #1464 in Kansas City, a member of the N.R.A. and a member of the Cass County Historical Society. He coached little league baseball for many years.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Sweitzer, of the home; sons, Gabriel Sweitzer, and wife, Kim, Harrisonville, Eric Wright, Kansas City, Missouri, Shane Wright and wife, Amy, Harrisonville, and Lezlie Powell, Eugene, Oregon; a daughter, Paula Vergouven, and husband Eric, Harrisonville; two sisters, Rebecca S. Kraxberger, and husband Michael, Blue Springs, Missouri and Mary Helen Lehman, Harrisonville; grandchildren, Trenton and Brockton Sweitzer, Justin, Lacey, Amanda, Dylan, Drew, Dalton, Devin, Derek, Kayla, and one great-grandson, Kaden.
