George Albert Sroufe, 83, Raymore, MO, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the South Haven Baptist Church in Belton, MO with visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, MO.


George was born July 12, 1928 in Sacramento, California, the son of John Adam and Virginia A. (Sochia) Sroufe. He married Ruthie Maxine Tillerson on May 17, 1945. They were married for almost 59 years before her death on March 22, 2004. George had lived in Kansas City, MO before moving to Harrisonville, MO in 1963. He owned Busy Bee Auto Salvage and was a builder and developed Gaslight Shopping Center and Slumber Inn Motel. George married Dorothy Frances Elkins on November 4, 2004. They had lived in Raymore, MO for the past five years. He was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church in Belton. He was also a WWII Merchant Marine veteran.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Maxine. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons, Larry John Sroufe, Belton, MO and Wayne Sroufe and his wife, Connie, Osborn, MO; 4 grandchildren, John Albert Sroufe, Larry George Sroufe, Sherry Lobb and her husband, Tommy and their children, Brenna, Logan and Avery; Cindy Tomasic and her husband, Jim and their children, Jessica, Kurtis and Jacob; four stepdaughters, Jeanne Wissmann and her husband, David, Lenexa, KS and their children, Sarah and Michael; Sharon Burger, Garden City, MO; Lani Mitchell and her husband, Darrell, Gladstone, MO and their children, Rebecca and Adam; Lisa McCullough, Fayetteville, Arkansas and her children, Emily and Tyler; one sister, Marilyn Dybeck and her husband, Dick, Union, Washington.
