Obituary

George Taylor "G. T." Lawson, Jr., 82, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville. Funeral services 10:00 AM Friday, February 29, 2008 at Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday, February 28 at the chapel, with Masonic services at 8:00 PM. Contributions to The Shriner Hospital for Children, 2001 South Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131.

George was born March 12, 1925 in Harrisonville, at the old Lynch hospital, the son of George Taylor and Lena Moore (Baldwin) Lawson. He was very proud of the fact that he was the first successful Caesarian baby born in Harrisonville. He was a 1943 graduate of Harrisonville High School. He married Nancy Helen Acuff on June 6, 1948 in Harrisonville.

George was a WWII Navy veteran. He served on the USS Ulvert M. Moore Destroyer Escort 442 as a Torpedoman's Mate 1st Class under Captain Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. Mr. Roosevelt was responsible for organizing the first DE-442 reunion. George and his wife, Nancy, later served as president and secretary of the DE-442 Reunion Association for several years before they disbanded in 2001.

George worked for Western Auto in Harrisonville while in high school and after he returned home from the service. He then began his career as a parts manager at several Chevrolet dealerships, including Nancy's father's dealership, Herb Acuff Motors in Harrisonville, Van Chevrolet in Kansas City, Royal Chevrolet in Harrisonville and retired from Sarann Chevrolet in Kansas City in 1988. After retiring, he worked part time for Meryl Bohannon at Harrisonville Auto Parts.

George was a 50-year member of the Cass Masonic Lodge, No. 147, AF&AM, a member of Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, VFW Post 4409 and the American Legion Post 42. He was a life-time member of the Harrisonville First Christian Church. He was also a member of the Harrisonville Twin Pines Country Club and the Harrisonville Golf Club. George was an avid golfer and also had enjoyed bowling and hunting when he was younger. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy, on December 20, 2002 and his sister, Velma Stephens, on November 29, 2007. He is survived by two daughters, Georgann Metheny and her husband, Glenn, Raymore, MO and Janet Allbaugh and her husband, Steve, Harrisonville, MO; one son, Richard Lawson, Harrisonville, MO; six grandchildren, Adam Metheny and his wife, Alyssa, Olathe, KS, Joshua Lawson, Harrisonville, MO, Megan Davidson and her husband, Ryan, Harrisonville, MO, Nicolette Lawson, Harrisonville, MO, Carolyn Metheny, Ridgefield, WA and Brandy Lawson, Winfield, IA and three great-grandchildren, Bryce Jenkins, Ayden and Ava Little.
