George Edward Holt, 88, Harrisonville, MO, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral serivces will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14 at the chapel. Contributions may be made to the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
George was born March 14, 1920 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of George C. and Nancy S. (Briles) Holt. He was a 1939 graduate of Peculiar High School. George was a lifelong resident of Cass County. He married Nina J. Goddard on September 24, 1947 in Harrisonville.
George was a WWII Army Veteran. He was a member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church. George worked for Limpus Quarries for 22 years before retiring in 1984. He was a former member of the Teamsters Union. He was also a former member of the Hickory Grove School Board.
George was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Johnnie Holt, one brother, Robert Holt and two sons-in-law, Eddie Max Anderson and Paul LaVern Gilmore. He is survived by his wife, Nina, of the home; two sons, Jim Holt and his wife, Ginger, Harrisonville, MO and Richard Holt and his wife, Betty, Warsaw, MO; three daughters, Nancy Anderson, Archie, MO, Barbara Spinning and her husband, Dave, Garden City, MO and Georgia Gilmore, Clinton, MO; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
