Obituary

George O. Brown, 73, Peculiar, MO, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 21 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Burial in Cowgill Cemetery, Cowgill, MO. Friends may call 11:00 AM-12:30 PM Wednesday at the chapel with Masonic services at 12:40. Contributions to Grand River Masonic Lodge, Freeman, MO.

George was born August 3, 1934 in Maryville, MO, the son of Felix Robert and Edna Fern (Robinson) Brown. He married Shirley Catherine Kavanaugh on July 3, 1968 in Excelsior Springs, MO. George received a B.A. in Education from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville and later moved to St. Joseph, MO, where he taught Business Education and Typing at Central High School. George served on active duty in the Army National Guard. He later worked for Owens Corning. He had also worked as a substitute teacher for the Raymore-Peculiar school district. George was a member of the Grand River Masonic Lodge in Freeman, MO.

George was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas Lynn Mathews and one brother, Felix Edward Brown. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; six daughters, Patricia Thorton, Peculiar, MO, Victoria Baylie, Overland Park, KS, Susan Bunse, Cosby, MO, Pam Mathews, Lenexa, KS, Cindy Kenschafg, Overland Park, KS and Sara Thayer, Troy, KS; one brother, James Brown, St. Joseph, MO; one sister, Audry Epperson, Tucson, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

George was an honorable man, a devoted Mason and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved being with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and we trust he will reside forever with his Heavenly Father.
