George Robert "Bob" Russell, 81, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away at his home Saturday, October 18, 2014, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, Missouri with burial to follow in Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: Heart of the Bride Grow Fund - Russell Memorial, P.O. Box 786, Niceville, FL 32588 or may be left at the funeral home.

Bob was born January 25, 1933 in Harrisonville, Missouri, in the Mt. Zion community, the son of Walter Howard "Tat" and Anna Elizabeth (Garten) Russell. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Dean Anstine on June 1, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. The following November Bob joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in New York, Germany, California, Washington, DC and Florida. He retired in 1971 with 20 years of service and began a second career with Dade County Schools in Miami, Florida as a HVAC technician.

In 1992, Bob started a third career as a grandfather, traveling around in an RV to the different states where his children and grandchildren lived. In 1996, they returned to Raymore, Missouri and remained until his death. Bob was a devoted Christian, serving in churches everywhere they lived and was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Cutler Ridge in Miami, Florida. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Leland and Jack and his sisters, Betty and Jane. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; five children, Randy (Jackie) Russell of Panama City, Florida, Debbie (Mike) Hurst of Raleigh, North Carolina, Gary (Jenny) Russell of Niceville, Florida, Cindy (Bill) Wood of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Ricky Russell of Ringgold, Georgia; 13 loved grandchildren, Christopher, Charity and Cameron, Jeremy and Alex, Rob, Adam and David, Sara and Christie, Tara, Taylor and Tanner; 5 great grandchildren, that captured his heart, Merit and Millie, Bryleigh and Camden, and Londyn, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that loved him dearly.
