Gene Bradford, 77, Archie, MO, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21 at Sharon Cemetery in Drexel, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday, February 20 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Archie. Gene was born June 25, 1939 in Chillicothe, MO, the son of James Allen and Lucille (Stewart) Bradford. He married Nancy Sue Hobbs on May 10, 1985 in Miami, Oklahoma. They lived in Lee's Summit, MO before moving to Archie in 1989.
Gene was a truck driver for Ash Grove Quarries in Independence, MO before retiring in 1991 and was a member of Local #541. He had also worked at the Cantrell Sale Barn in Archie for several years. Gene was a cowboy at heart. He rode and broke horses and raised cattle. He showed horses professionally for a number of years. He was a member of the Lee's Summit Saddle Club and hosted horse shows and team ropings near Archie.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; step-son, Jeff Hobbs, Raymore, MO; step-daughter, Kelly Corn, Archie, MO; sister, Kay Batchelder (Roger), Drexel, MO; step-grandchildren, Peyton and Lucas Hobbs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
