Obituary

Gary Wayne Miller, 62, Garden City, Missouri, died Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Harrisonville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 12:30-2:00. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association (www.lung.org).

Gary was born November 26, 1953 in Windsor, Missouri, the son of Keith Albert and Geneva (Mullins) Miller. He grew up in Shawnee, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, for two years. He moved to Harrisonville, Missouri in 1972 and had lived in Blairstown, Missouri before moving to Garden City in 1996. Gary met Normajean Fletcher in 1987 and they were married October 18, 1997 in Garden City, Missouri.

Gary had worked at Smitty's Custom Vans in Belton, Missouri, had owned a jewelry store in Westport, and was an individual support manager for CASCO Workshop in Harrisonville for 12 years and was very interested in behavioral modifications. He was a passionate member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 21 years. Gary's favorite saying was, "Remember, we're all in this shit together!"

Gary is survived by his wife, Normajean, of the home; four daughters, Mischele Irvin (Davey), Holden, Missouri, Tiffiany Hinton (Brant), Harrisonville, Missouri, Lisa Allin (Kevin), Drexel, Missouri, Jenni Atkin (Mike), Garden City, Missouri; his parents, Ben and Geneva Friend, Harrisonville, Missouri; three brothers, Ben Friend (Paula), Joshua, Texas, Ron Friend (Sheri), Garden City, Missouri, Brian Miller (April), Warsaw, Missouri; one sister, Lisa Miller, Springfield, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Kevin, Julissia, Austin, John, Levi, Abby, Jocee, and 7 great-grandchildren .
