Obituary

Gail Thompson, 73, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away peacefully August 19, 2012, after a hard fought battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will follow in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Gail was born July 3, 1939, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Harry and Bertha (Goodrich) Skinner. Gail grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska and then attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, where she met and fell in love with Jim Thompson. She received a BS in Biology with a minor in Music. She and Jim married on August 19, 1961. They moved to Columbia, MO where he attended MU Law School and she did research work in Biology at the University of Missouri.

They settled in Harrisonville in 1964. She taught biology for many years, both to junior high and high school students in Smith Hale and Harrisonville School Districts. Gail shared her love of music singing at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a friend of Bill W, an officer in BPW and enjoyed playing cards with her beloved bridge club. She loved to travel and she and Jim celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Kauai in 2011.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jim, of the home; her two children, Jim Thompson, St. Charles, MO and Jennifer Dulny (Dave), Shawnee, KS. Gail also has four grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Thompson, St. Charles, MO and Amanda and Zachary Dulny of Shawnee, Kansas. She is also survived by two siblings, a brother, Ed Skinner of Arkadelphia, AR and a sister, Sandra Tregue of Gun Barrel City, TX and nieces and nephews.

Gail will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend.
