Florence G. Harper, 92, Peculiar, MO, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Rehabilitation Center of Raymore in Raymore, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Greater Kansas City Chapter, 211 W. Florence was born February 1, 1918 in Hartshorne, OK to Lee Robert and Eva G. (Rippee) Smith. At age 7 she moved to Kansas City with her family. She was united in marriage to Herbert W. Harper on April 24, 1937 and they moved to Peculiar, MO.
Florence was active in community work in Peculiar and Cass County. She served as chairman of the P.T.A. Assoc. for Peculiar Schools and as chairman of the Cass County P.T.A. Assoc. where she was a lifetime member. She was a past chairman of the Cass County Cancer Assoc. and past officer on the Advisory Committee to the Cass County Health Dept. She was a Red Cross Volunteer Gray Lady and served at the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base Hospital.
In 1959 Florence was employed by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross and was assigned to the Cass County Area as the Regional Administrator where she worked until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of the Peculiar Methodist Church.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herbert on June 6, 1997, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Mark Harper. She is survived by three sons, Donald Harper and wife, Sheryl of Branson, MO, Jerry Harper and wife, Gayle of Peculiar, MO, and Jim Harper and wife, Pat of St. Petersburg, FL; one daughter, Vicki Coleman of Raymore, MO; one brother, Jack Crawford; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
