Obituary

Ferrell Dean Cummings, 83, of Grandview, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ferrell was born on July 8, 1936 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the son of Anver and LaVerna Pearl (Bybee) Cummings. He was born and raised in Harrisonville, graduating from Harrisonville High School. He met the love of his life, Alice Gilbert and they were married on August 2, 1957 in Harrisonville, Missouri. He enlisted for the U.S. Army Reserves and served from 1959 through 1965. Ferrell went on to work for General Motors, retiring as a Relief Man after 28 years of service with them. During his time with GM, he was a member of the UAW Union.

When Ferrell was younger, he really enjoyed motorcycles, but he always had a like for country music, especially Elvis. He was the creative type as well, often drawing or building things in his free time or working on his yard and enjoying being able to do yard work. Alice and he were able to travel together, although the traveling was not necessarily what he enjoyed most – as he actually enjoyed being able to meet new people and make friends in his travels, especially those on visits to Clearwater Beach, Florida. He will be remembered for his great memory and way with numbers, as well as, his dry sense of humor.

Ferrell was preceded in death by his father, Anver; his mother, LaVerna; his brother, Walter "Pete" Cummings; and his nephew: Michael Morris. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice; his sister, Maxine (Dick) Morris; sister-in-law, Freda Cummings; 6 nieces and nephews: Rob (Barb) Cummings, Kathy Cummings, David (Lori) Cummings, Becky (Roger) Randall, Patty (Randy) Giebler, and Debra (Dan) Amerson; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews: Doug (Angela) Randall, Steve Randall, Jessica (Scott) Pisarik, Nathan Marolt, Laura Marolt, Katelyn Amerson, Emily Amerson, Jake Cummings, Michelle Cummings, Casey Myers, Tony (Santana) Cummings, Beth (Rex) Waechter, Macy Cummings, and Brady Cummings; 6 great-great-nephews; and his stepmother, Nadean Cummings.

A Funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020  at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial in the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO.
