Evelyn was born May 1, 1925 in Schell City, Missouri, the daughter of Harvey and Rose Ella (Anderson) Prough, the third of eight children. She graduated from high school and Kansas City Beauty School. She worked as a beautician for many years before going to work for Bendix Corporation of Kansas City as an electrical assembler, retiring after 30 years. Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age at the Flat Rock Baptist Church in rural Schell City and was baptized in the Osage River. She was an active and long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Adrian. She was a 50+ year member of Crescent Hill Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Adrian Birthday Club and the Adrian Solo Club.
Evelyn loved to work in her yard and her flowers. She also loved to travel and did so all over the United States, Canada and Europe. After her retirement, she had time to catch up on those activities she had missed out on. Her family was her life and she enjoyed visiting them, whether near or far.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Doris Dean and Velda Rose (Prough) Rahn, one brother, Roy Prough, two brothers-in-law, Tom Rahn and Robert Stice, three nieces, Carol Ann and Beverly Prough and Linda (Rahn) Surls and one nephew, John Kershner. She is survived by two brothers, Cecil Prough and wife, Geri, Everett Prough and wife, Patricia, all of Schell City, Missouri; two sisters, Roberta Kershner, Adrian, Missouri and Dorothy Stice, Harrisonville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Sharon Prough, Raytown, Missouri.
"Aunt Sissy" was a great aunt in every since of the word, with 20 nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and nephews and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews, and she remembered all of them, especially at Christmas time. She will be missed by many family, cousins, extended family and friends.
