Evelyn Mabel Mills, 98, of Harrisonville, MO passed from this life to heaven on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with interment in Freedom Cemetery, Freedom, New York on Friday, July 21, 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Hospice, 1626 E. Elm St., Harrisonville, MO 64701.

Evelyn was born December 12, 1918 at Chaffee, NY to Lewis and Ruth (Hakes) Palmerton. She attended Delevan, NY High School where she played basketball and loved to dance. She married Stewart Mills on May 29, 1940 in Sandusky, NY. They lived in Rome, NY for 25 years before moving to Harrisonville in 1970.

Evelyn was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church in New York and active in the Ladies Aid where she had many life-long friends. She also worked in the cafeteria at Westmoreland Central School and loved to go camping at Moffit Beach in Speculator, NY. She enjoyed gardening and had beautiful flowers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Harrisonville where she served in the nursery and made delicious pies for church dinners. She was a current member of Faith Baptist Church of Harrisonville.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her her husband Stewart, her parents, three brothers, Myron, Mervin and Elwyn Palmerton and one sister, Marilyn Palmerton Koleynski and granddaughter, Stacy Jane Crumb. She is survived by one son, William F. Mills (Joy), Harrisonville, MO; four daughters, Darleen E. Small of Saranac Lake, NY, Donnaleen E. Rasmussen of Haines City, Florida, Doreen E Crumb (William), Evergreen, CO and Daneen E Huston (Bill) Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren, Cyndee, Artie, Randy, Jennifer, Stacy, Samantha, Keith, Blake, Rachel, Rebecca and Jonathan; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
