Obituary
Eula Anderson Downey, 95, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Benchmark Health Care of Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Friends may call from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Eula Mae Terry was born June 5, 1917 in Freeman, Missouri, the daughter of Jasper Thomas and Bessie Amy (Green) Terry. She was a lifelong resident of Cass County. Eula's mother died when she was a teenager and Eula became the lady of the house, taking on the responsibilities of the household. On May 8, 1936, she married Rex Elmer Anderson. They raised three children.
In 1957 she began working at the Ben Franklin Dime Store on the square in Harrisonville. After nearly 31 years of marriage, Rex passed away on February 12, 1967. Eula continued working at Ben Franklin after it moved to the Southland Shopping Center until its closing. Then she went to work at Nancy's Hallmark.
Eula met James Downey and they married on December 5, 1982. Together they enjoyed visiting relatives and friends. Eula was a member of First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, Harrisonville Senior Citizens, Harrisonville BPW, Cass County Regional Medical Center Auxiliary (earning her 500 hour volunteer pin), Auxiliary I Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Eula was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rex, brother, Ezra, stepmother, Marie Terry and her second husband, Jim, on November 4, 1996. She is survived by one daughter, Norma Rutledge, Olive Branch, MS; two sons, Gordon Anderson and wife, Rieta, Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Lyle Dean Anderson and wife, Patty, Harrisonville, Missouri; one brother, Jasper Neal Terry, Dallas, Texas; one sister, Ardith "Terry" Winston, Orange Park, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Kaye Manning, Harrisonville, Susie Bridges (Randy), Pleasant Hill, Deanna Cook (Brian), Bolivar, Amy Rutledge, North Kansas City, Brett Anderson, Raymore, Doug Anderson, Harrisonville; 5 great-grandchildren, J. D. Manning (Kara), Clinton, Brady Manning (Abby), Waverly, NE, Nicole Bridges, Pleasant Hill, Jackson and Garret Cook, Bolivar; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Cade, Colton and Brynn Manning, Sophie and Stella Manning and Laney Bridges; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
