Ethel Marie Young, 89, Adrian, MO, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian. Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel. An Eastern Star service and a Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Miami County Memorial Gardens in Paola, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Adrian, P.O. Box 126, Adrian, MO 64720 or to the charity of your choice.
Ethel was born February 19, 1920 in Fontana, KS, the daughter of George Henry and Kate May (Moore) Brocker. She was a 1937 graduate of Fontana High School. She was so happy to attend her 70th class reunion in May, 2007. On August 1, 1941, she married Mitchell Clay Young. To this union were born two sons, Phil and Forrest.
Ethel and Mike lived on a farm near Fontana, KS before moving to Adrian in 1954. Mike became a Standard Oil agent and Ethel enjoyed being a homemaker and helping him with the business. Ethel was a loving wife and a wonderful mother who also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ethel was a member of the Adrian United Methodist Church. She was a 50+ year member of the Crescent Hill Chapter #127 Order of the Eastern Star and a 50+ year member of the Rebekah Lodge #449, both of Adrian, MO. She also enjoyed several social clubs.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell on May 4, 1989, her parents and two sisters, Helen Ruth Watson and Evelyn May Young. She is survived by her two sons, Phillip Wesley Young and his wife, Rita of Rogers, Arkansas and Forrest Allen Young and his wife, Bonnie of Carthage, Missouri; five grandchildren, Brad Young and his wife, Mary Jane of Garland, Kansas, Brenda Young of Rogers, Arkansas, Becky Bahnks and her husband, Mike of Bryant, Arkansas, David Young and his wife, Crystal of Springdale, Arkansas and Rachel Carr and her husband, Jon of Olathe, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
