Obituary

Elvin Sidney Douglas, Jr., of Harrisonville, Missouri, died August 4, 2012.

He was born June 6, 1933 in Bolivar, Missouri to Elvin and Florence (Delisle) Douglas. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1951 to 1957 where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1955 and his Bachelor of Law in 1957.

Elvin was active in many different community organizations. He completed 25 years of service as a trustee of Cass Medical Center in 1985. He served 13 years as a member of the Board of Education with his last term expiring in 1987. He was recognized by the Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce and the Harrisonville Rotary Club for his contributions in community leadership. He retired in December 2009 having practiced law with the law firm of Crouch, Spangler & Douglas for more than 50 years. He was a fierce advocate for his family and friends and will be missed by many people.

He is survived by his long time friend Linda Sherman, his son Sid Douglas and his wife Felicia, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, his son Scott Douglas and his wife Pam, of Carthage, Missouri, and his daughter Stephanie Hartzler and her husband Randy, of Kearney, Missouri, and his grandchildren, Sarah Douglas and her husband Joe Morgan, Chris Douglas and his wife Megan, Katie Douglas, Drew Douglas, Jennifer Hartzler, Shane Hartzler, Morgan Hartzler and Jessi Hartzler. Other survivors include his sister Rose Roweton and her husband Max of Bolivar, Missouri, and his brother Kerry Douglas and his wife Lynda, of Bolivar, Missouri, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cass Medical Center Foundation for the benefit of the Elvin S. Douglas, Jr. Scholarship Fund or to University of Missouri Law School Foundation for the benefit of the T.H. and Elvin Douglas Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services for Elvin will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 504 West Wall Street, Harrisonville, MO. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm Saturday at the church. Burial and graveside services will be at 3:00 pm Monday, August 13, 2012 in Greenwood Cemetery, Bolivar, MO.
