Obituary

Elva Vera Friedly, 92, of Prairie Village, KS died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Northwest Garden Project, 11 East 40th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111-4909.

Elva was born February 9, 1918 in Stover, MO, the daughter of Lewis Conrad and Orpha Belle (Merriott) Friedly. She grew up in Stover, MO and attended the First Baptist Church. Elva moved to Kansas City, MO in 1937 and went to work for the Joseph Snyder family caring for their children in 1938. She began working as Mr. Snyder's secretary around 1944, driving him around town and helping with his magazine agency and rental property management. She worked for Snyder Magazine Agency until Joe Snyder retired during the early 1980's, taking over ownership and management of the agency until she sold it in the late 1990's.

Elva began attending the Evening Guild of St. Paul's in Kansas City in 1951 and became a member of the church in 1952. She volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital gift shop until 1980 and was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. Elva's hobbies included knitting, crocheting and reading and she especially liked to spend her free time gardening, traveling and entertaining.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents, one nephew, Rodney Friedly, two brothers, Claude and Russell Friedly and one sister, Hellen Friedly Browning. She is survived by two brothers, L. D. Friedly and his wife, Barbara of Butler, MO and Ross Friedly and his wife, Margaret of Blackburn, MO; nieces and nephews, Wallace Friedly, Kenneth Friedly, Lois Ann Friedly, Robert Friedly, Arlene Greene, Janet Iggulden, Victor Browning, Lyle Browning, Jeff Friedly, Alan Friedly, Lynn Utley, Nancy Hall, Lora Rodenberg, Cinda O'Keefe, and Dale Friedly, along with the Snyder Girls, Midge and Jennifer.
