Ellis Francis Bearce, 85, Harrisonville, MO, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Benchmark Healthcare of Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. Burial in Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with Rosary at 6:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Ellis was born October 28, 1925 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Horace Monroe and Savannah (Cox) Bearce. He lived in Harrisonville all of his life, most notably as a police officer for the Harrisonville Police Force. He married Lorraine E. McAnnar on July 6, 1946 at St. James Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO while serving in the Coast Guard. To this union two children were born, Terry F. and Deborah A. Lorraine preceded him in death on July 9, 1984.
Ellis married JoAnn Laura Powers on May 16, 1987 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Puetz Council, #6550, and an honor guard for the Knights of Columbus. He served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard.
After returning to Harrisonville, following his military duty, Ellis worked for Hydro-Butane Gas Company for several years. He also worked for McClain's Electric Company as an electrician, while working part-time as a police officer. He began working as a full-time police officer in 1970 and concluded that career in 1985. Ellis then worked for Cass County Title Company as a courier before retiring to a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorraine Bearce, brothers, Marvin, Howard, Boyd, Leonard and Quincy and sisters, Mary Peterson and Dora Anderson. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of the home; one son, Terry F. Bearce and wife, Ruth Ann of Brick, New Jersey; one daughter, Deborah A. Harris and husband, Jim of Prescott, Kansas; step-daughter, Laurel Cooper of Harrisonville, MO; one sister, Catherine Harper, Farmington, MO; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
