Edna Alberta Saylor, 94, Adrian, MO, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Adrian Manor Nursing Home in Adrian. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian with visitation from 10:00-10:30. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Public Library or to Heartland Hospice.
Alberta was born November 29, 1916 in Thompson MO, the daughter of Benjamin William and Inez Earl (Spurling) Jesse. Alberta was proud to be one of the first of her family to complete 12 years of school, finishing at the top of her class at Fox School, Thompson, MO. On December 24, 1936 Alberta married William S. Saylor of Auxvasse, MO. She was a devoted wife and
the mother of three children, Carroll, Edna and Larry. Alberta had various jobs; however her primary purpose in life was to nurture and raise her children.
Alberta and Bill retired to Arizona in 1972 and returned to Missouri in 1986 to be closer to family and easier to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Edna and John Raleigh in New York. Alberta was also an active member of the Adrian Christian Church for many years. She was extremely competitive in everything she did. She loved board games, card games and reading. Her other hobbies consisted of cross word puzzles and crocheting.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by two daughters, Carroll Still and husband, Raymond of Adrian, MO and Edna Raleigh and husband, John of Waddington, NY; one son, Larry Saylor and wife, Angela of Parkville, MO; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Barnes and sister-in-law, Rae Jesse, both of Mexico, MO.
