Douglas Wade Strickland, 60, Peculiar, MO passed away surrounded by his family on October 14, 2017. He was born in Nagoya, Japan, April 20, 1957, a son of Darrell and Estelle (McIntyre) Strickland. He returned with his family to Texas, living first in Waco, then in Houston. He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1975 and then obtained a degree in Business from Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. For 27 years, he was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture as an IT Specialist.
A tireless spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation, Doug refused to be limited by kidney disease. In addition to his work with the Kidney Foundation, he was instrumental in research for Alport's Syndrome, a rare immunodeficiency that affects not only the kidneys but also hearing and vision. He earned a Black Belt in Karate, loved riding his Harley and landscaping his yard. Doug is survived by his wife of the home, Margaret Strickland, his daughter, Danielle Strickland, of Boone, Iowa, one brother, Randy and sister-in-law, Beverly Strickland of Montgomery, Texas and a cousin, Cherry Levin of San Rafael, California. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Burial was Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Willow Spring Cemetery in Mart, Texas .Contributions to the National Kidney Foundation.
