Douglas "Doug" Dean Kearney, 73, Peculiar, Missouri, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9 at the Wills Cemetery in Peculiar. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Doug was born July 5, 1941 in Spring Hill, Kansas, the son of Dennis and Jewell (Alley) Kearney. He was a 1959 graduate of Peculiar High School and was a life-long resident of Peculiar, Missouri. He married Kay Hutson on October 24, 1959. Doug worked as a meat cutter for Safeway for 22 years and later worked as a commercial insulator. He was a retired member of the Meat Cutters Union and the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kay, of the home; one son, Dean Kearney and wife, Jana, of Peculiar, Missouri; one daughter, Lee Ann O'Neal and husband, Tim, of Conway, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joy, Jonathan and 1 great-grandchild, Paige O'Neal.
