Douglas M. Archer, 86, of Archie, MO, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Baptist Homes of Adrian in Adrian, MO. Memorial services were held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to Children's Mercy.

Douglas was born on July 7, 1938, to Loren Vernon and Treva Irene (Hutchison) Archer in Lamar, MO. Doug grew up in Vernon County, MO, and was a 1956 graduate of Nevada High School. Doug married Gayle L. Olson on November 15, 1960, in Nevada, MO, and to this union five children were born. Doug served in the California and Missouri National Guard as a Combat Medic. He was attached to the 2/203rd Armor at Camp Clark, MO, during his time with the MOANG.

Doug held many jobs over his working life, including: ambulance driver, firefighter, mechanic, truck driver, printer, boy scout leader, police officer, and deputy sheriff. He worked for the Vernon County Sheriff's office, Cass County Sheriff's office, and Archie Police Department, serving as Archie Police Chief for a time before retirement.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Micheal; a sister, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Bruce and Vance. He is survived by his wife, Gayle, of Archie, MO; sons: Christopher (Laurie) Archer of Adrian, MO; and Douglas Archer of Twin Falls, ID; daughters: Vicki Harris and Lauri Adams, both of Archie, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
