Dorothy F. Shipley, 93, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, MO. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Everett Community Church.

Dorothy was born October 16, 1924 in Archie, MO, the daughter of John Delbert and Elva Maude (Brooks) Adams. She was a 1943 graduate of Archie, MO High School, and after graduation, attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO.

Dorothy received her teaching certificate and taught at Glendale #113 Rural School, west of Freeman, MO. She taught from 1944-1946 and was the last teacher at the school before it closed. She was united in marriage to James Edward Robinson of Adrian, MO on December 8, 1945 and to this union two children were born, Edward and Janice. James tragically drowned in a pond during a family outing May 23, 1948.

On April 19, 1952 Dorothy married Thurman F. Shipley and his young son Norvin. To this union two children were born, Rita and Connie. They lived on the farm, raising the family, before moving to Harrisonville in 1998. Thurman preceded her in death on December 7, 2006. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Cass County. She was a member of the Everett Community Church, Everett, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, an infant sister, Mary Lou Adams, two brothers, Delbert and Ellis Adams, a sister, Virginia May Atkinson, and a great-granddaughter, Lora Leigh Humphries. Survivors include two sons, Ed Robinson (Susan), Houston, TX, and Norvin Shipley (Sherri), Archie, MO; three daughters, Janice Robinson, Adrian, MO, Rita Johnson (John), Colorado Springs, CO, and Connie Crites (Lynn), Justin, TX; two brothers, Elton Adams and Loy Adams, both of Freeman, MO; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
